ABOUT:

William Branson III (born August 3, 1953 in Durham, North Carolina, USA) is an internationally renowned portrait artist who has dedicated his life to experimentation and the pursuit of excellence. No stranger to hard work, William’s notoriety in portraiture has been anything but overnight. With a nod to the past, and an eye to the future, he has spent years crafting portraits as unique as the path that brought him here.

Considered one of the leading portrait artist of his generation, William’s portraiture is sought worldwide and his rise to the top of his profession is a success he never takes for granted. Whether he is reinventing an Old World look or creating a new one, his mind is always seeking a unique look. He is always reminded that meticulous attention to craft makes anything possible.

William’s paintings fascinate many and have been described as being “some of the most engaging and enthralling portraiture ever seen”. His work embodies the elements found in true classical paintings. His portraits grace the homes, universities and institutions of clients throughout the world.

Beginning his career in 1972, William studied classical paintings of the past and the nuances that made them unique. Often referred to as “Grand Manner portraits”, these art forms portrayed subjects with an elegance and grace that set them a part rom the great painters before them. Today, he believes that portraits should embody all of these elements of simplicity, beauty and elegance that would allow them to survive the test of time as those of the Old Masters. His classical style of  portraiture has become cherished pieces of art that are now being passed from generation to generation.

William approaches each commissioned portrait with the same philosophy: to create a masterpiece that accurately reflects the views of his subject while incorporating the signature style that makes it unmistakably a “Branson Portrait”.  Committed to keeping true to this style of portraiture, William has responded to his clients by creating for them classical, timeless portraits of loved ones.

Melding pigment inks with acrylics and oils, William has defined the pinnacle in modern portraiture. Surpassing the traditional portrait painter, he allows clients the rare opportunity to enjoy a true painting with an exact likeness. It is as if the hands of the past painters are reaching out to him saying, “we have relinquished ourselves to you to create the exact likeness, without room for interpretation and present the ultimate in portraiture to the world today
