The Spring Roundup on Chincoteague is April 8th and 9th. Here is a link that gives more information. https://www.chincoteaguechamber.com/spring-fall-round-info/ I suggest arriving early (I'm suggesting 3PM or earlier to suit you - they begin around 4:30) on the 8th to secure a good spot for photographing the Southern Herd's arrival into the pen. It is really awesome and a lot less crowded than Pony Penning. If anyone wants to participate in the Northern herd roundup on Saturday, they need to be sure to bring comfy walking shoes for the 6 mile walk.
The Waterside Inn on Main Street has set aside 20 rooms for us. The cost is $108 per night. Please contact them prior to March 15th and mention VPPA to secure your reservation at that rate Waterside Inn Chincoteague Island 3761 S Main St, Chincoteague 23336 1-757-3363434 We also have some other awesome events arranged for the weekend which we'd love for you to attend. Friday evening - Museum tour - $5 - We have also been offered the Pavillion at the museum for an after hours event if we're interested. There is usually a charge, however, they are offering it to us at no cost. We will arrange our own meals. The second choice is to have an informal hang out at the Chincoteague Community Island House. It's free but we should probably offer a small donation to use it. We would have tables and chairs set up to eat (we again arrange our own meals). The movie Misty of Chincoteague will be playing for the kids and any adults who'd like to watch. I'll also be adding this message to the Chincoteague Photographers FB page so we can possibly talk to anyone interested about VPPA. It would be a great opportunity to increase interest on the Eastern Shore. Saturday Morning Sunrise Shoot on Assateague - Around 6am we would head over to Assateague to photograph sunrise and the wildlife waking on the refuge. Cindy Faith of the Chincoteague Island Step Through Time Tours has offered to give us a special tour prior to her opening season. Her tours provide an educational and entertaining view of the history of the Island. and are a hit with patrons of all ages. The cost is $20 per person and children 10 and under are free. Contact Cindy at 757 894 1953 to sign up for the tour Saturday morning at 10am. I highly recommend it!
I will have more information and fun facts that I'll release every week to get people excited about the trip. One other thing to add is that if they have a National Park pass to bring it with them. Otherwise they can get a pass for the weekend for Assateague. You only need one per car so I encourage people to carpool if they can over to the refuge. Please let me know if any additional details are needed at the moment. Kind regards, Jamie
